WORK FOR WOMEN
A SCHEME OF ORGANISATION
Uia Women's National Reserve in Wellington has been working on a scheme ,for tho training of women to take clerical positions in offices vacated oy.:men going on active service. Tina scheme .has advanced some way already, and a report has been supplied to the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. G.W.:.Russell) on the results to dato. ': They have sent to me," said the Minister yesterday, "a list of 100 names of women: who aro certified by Miss Myers to bo qualified for clerical work. They state, also, that should a larger number bo required they are ready to supply, the names of many other suitable; women when requested. The list includes 12 shorthand writers and typists, 0 who are typists only, 38 who' are trained for general clerical work, and 48 women'who-are'untrained in office work but who are qualified for it, many of them being ex-teachera. Tho list is to be forwarded to the Public Service Commissioners, and I have urged that the Reserve should advertise- that they aro willing to supply clerks or typists to employers who require them. This branch of work' ia part of a movement which is general throughout Now Zealand: In Christchurch and in Dunedin similar work is being done, and also to a certain extent in Auckland; I have been asked by the Women's' Reserve in Auckland to visit their city in order to place their scheme oil the same satisfactory footing as that on which tho scheme rests in this/ City."
