Privato O. K. Steele, formerly chief clerk in Wellington for tlio Vacuum Oil Company, but now in hospital at St. Mark's College, Cholsea, Loudon, writes to a local friend as follows:—. "From the rest camp at -7- — : about 20 miles from > ———-— wliere wo were stationed, I went to a. casualty clearing station at —— : — : : and spent a day and a night tlierc. From there-wo got on an ambulance train and went to Calais, where I remained four days. Tho last night aGtorman aeroplane dropped bombs near our hospital and, woke us up. Arrived at Charing Cross about 4.30 a.m., and transferred to a 'swanky' taxi, which brought us Lore. A good number of our fellows aro in this hospital, and several I know well. I don't feel much inclined to go about yet, and will reservo sight-seeing to later on, when I feel fit. We get well attended to liero —good food, good medical attendants, and nice nurses. Lots of visitorsare continually calling, and some specially to seo any New Zcalanders. Things on the Continent are looking well now, but plenty to do yet. Am luckier than most, as I liavo an aunt and undo in London, who aro. kindness itself, to mo."
