KENT TERRACE CHURCH
• ' ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Kent Terrace- Presbyterian' Church was llield !ast evening, the Rev: Dr. J. K. Elliott being in the chair. Addresses, dealing the work of the church were given by Messrs. J. W. Jack, G. V. A. Ffaser, A. Johnston, C. 5. Falconer, H. A. Tolley, J. M'Eldowney and J. Bingham. - A The annual report, which was adopted, 6tated that "the hateful war referred to in last year's report still continues with all its horrors, desolation and distress. Many of-the young men of the congregation have respondod to the call - of the Empire, and not a few have been privileged to die the death of heroes, leaving us with precious memories, but with norrowful hearts. The judgments of .God are being poured upon the nations, and until we as a people are pwiitent and prayerful, we cannot expect complete victory in the colossal struggle in which we uro'now engaged. Indeed so absorbing and distracting has been the interest of this unparalleled historic event that it would not have been surprising if the re. eiilt had told heavily on, our numbers and finances. It is therefore with profound thankfulness that-we are enabled with the blessing of God to report n year of fair progress. As loyal Presby. tenaus it is gratifying to find that the grand historic denomination, the Church of our fathers and of our affections, has not been retarded by untoward circumstances, and continues to make itself a powor in the community. Our orphanage has added another costly and commodious building as a boys r department, and the Scots Boys' College has been es : tablished under- capable masters. We should like to see a larger attendance at the Lord's Day services. Many are In the habit of coming to the House of God once a day. The number of scholars on our Sabbath School roll stands at 200, with an average attendance of 131, a slight decrease on the preceding year. The infant department continues under the supervision of Miss Janes, and is .proving an excellent training .around for teachers, where the senior girls can gam experience before undertaking the tuition of a class on thoiv own responsibility. Miss Maclaurin has kindly conFented to officiate at the organ in place of Miss Evans." Regarding finance, the report continues: "Once more we are extremely gratified to find that onr ordinary revenue is sufficient to meet our expenditure, and that it has not been necessaTy to resort to any special effort. We .hope that this will be the normal, as it is wtainly the desirable, .state of affairs. We are aWe to close the year with a credit balance of ill 4s. M. This result we attribute largely to the advantages of the envelope system, and we again plead for its general adoption. Even a limited and parthl trial has con. vinced us that if the custom became general it would secure us against any unexpected strain that miijht come upon us."
