KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL

Mr. B. G. H. Burn, Mayor, presided at tho fortnightly meeting of the Karorii Borough Council last evening. The following were also present;— Councillors I T. Lever, R. Faire, L. P. Danes, A. Hamilton, R. T. Pell, W. C. Cooper,.and j J. W. Henderson. >; The fortnightly report of the engineer, : which wns adopted, stated that the main- ■ tenanco of streets had been carried out as usual. Metalling is proceeding on the ) Alain Road, but this, and the streets iu general use, are not in a satisfactory condition at present owing to the continual wet weather. All tho slips which occurred in the new portion of Homewood Avenue, Evelyn Road, and Main Road have been removed. The No. 3 bridgo. South Karori Road, was reported to be in good Tepair. .Mrs. England made application for the use of tho Tea Kiosk and a part of the Karori Park in order to hold a fete in aid of the Belgian Relief Fund on Saturday, September 9. It was refolvcd, on tho recommendation of Ae Recreation Ground Committee, that Mrs. England be informed that she may have the use of tho Kiosk, and also the spare ground around the Kiosk, for the purposes mentioned. Tho committee were unable to •grant the use of the hockey grounds on a Saturday, however. Neither are tho croquet lawns available. It was resolved to grant permission to the boys attending To Horo and Karori schools to uso the tea rooms anil oflo of tho hockey grounds on the park for their annual hockey match, which will take place this afternoon. A resolution was carried unanimously supporting the Government Recruiting Board in thoir endeavours to gain recruits under the new recruiting scheme. Iu reply to a letter sent by tlio Town Clerk asking that the dates for payment of interest for the Karori borough loan of JG37.000 bo altered from June 30 and December 30 to March 25 and September 25 in each year, Mr. J. R. Palmer, Town Clerk, of Wellington city, stated that ho had been directed by the Sinking Fund Commissioners to inform the Karori Borough Council that the dates of payment are set out ii] the debentures in duo legal form. The Commissionei'3 therefore regretted that they were not authorised to'mako the alteration requested.
