DEATH OF A CHEMIST
A POST-MORTEM ASKED FOE, By Telegraph—Press Association. Chrlstohurch, August 21. At the inquest on Edward Creighton Kirk, chemist, Colombo Street, a single man, aged 36, Walter Fairckragh, dentist, stated that Kb Toiind Kirk dead in bed this morning. AVitnoss found a bottle, labelled with the name of a deadly poison, and a tumbler on the duchess chest threo yards from tho bed. Tlie body was completely covered by the bed-clothes. Witness was an intimate friend of deceased's family, and wished to have a post-mortem examination, and so clear up the cause of death. The Coroner said the witness was quite right in asking for a post-mortem. Ko understood that the effects of this poison were very rapid, and if the bottle of poison wero found three yards from the bed, it seemed extraordinary, if Kirk committed suicide, that he could have got back to his bed and covorod himself with bedclothes. The Coroner, ordered a postmortem, and adjourned tho inquest.
