U-BOAT MURDERS
DENOUNCED BY GERMAN SOCIALDEMOCRATS • "UTTER FOOLISHNESS" Australian-Xcvr Zealand Cable Association. New York, August'2o. The Social Democrats in Germany have sccrotly circulated thousands of copies of an anti-submarine and antiGovcrnnicnt circular, in which they denounco tho TJ boat war as international murder. The circular says:— Tho crazy G'erman Imperialistic agitators stupidly provoked the world war, and then added tho futile submarine warfare in the spring of 1915. Our braggarts aro cracking jokes and threatening to starve England by the submarines. This is utter foolishness. A blockade would require a hundred submarines for every dozen Germany is able to build. Even then it would bo doubtful. The submarino campaign culminated in sending hundreds of women and children to a grisly death in the Lusitania, causing a world-wide crj l of horror. The Government promises a German victory, but it is more likely tha.t we will repeat the experience •at Verdun, where more than a hundred thousand Germans were driven to death in order to take a couple of unimportant positions.
