Wo captured several strong positions, and gained ground towards Guichy and Guillemont. Two hundred prisoners were taken during the day, including some officers. During the fighting the French also made progress. The enemy's billets were successfully bombed by our aircraft." . ■ . London, August 19, 5.15 p.m. ' Sir Douglas Haig reports: "The success we obtained during the night has been.maintained and extended. During the" night the enemy made a most determined counter-attack on the positions whioh were captured by us. The onemy regained a little ground on our extreme right, but was repulsed elsewhere. At High Woods,-where we join tho French, we advanced on a twomile front, to a depth varying from 200 to 600 yards. W T e now hold the western outskirts of Guillemont, to the northwards, and thence midway be* tween Delville Wood and Guichy. Hundreds of yards of the enemy's trenches were captured between Highwood and the Albert and Bapaume Roads. We advanced 300 yards eastwards and south-eastwards of Mouquot Farm. Wo pushed forward on a half-mile front at Ovillers and Thiepval, taking several hundred prisoners."
