A FAMOUS LANDMARK
THE WINDMILL ABOVE POZIERES. Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. (Roc. August 19, 7.5 p.m.) London, August 19. Mr. Philip Gibbs writes: "On the left of the battle line, above Pozieres, stands a windmill which should become as famous in history as ferryman's house on the Yser, the Chateau of Verneiless, or tho Tower Bridge at Loos. Waves of men have stormed the slope towards it, under a storm of shell fire. To tho Anzacs, fighting for tho high ridge on which it stands above Martinpuich, it has "been tho goal pf great endeavour, for which many have tjiven their lives. The enemy defended it as if it were a treasure-house. That windmill is ours now. Our line sweeps round it, and our shell-fire harraccs the enemv's ways to nnd from Martinpuich. Our heavy shells occasionally crash into Thiepval. to which our man are slowly but surely creeping closer."
