TKo war loan was briefly referred to by the Rev. A. M. Jobnson at St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral yesterday morning. Ho said that evoryono who could ought to invest in it. He was speaking of tho right use of money from the point of view of Christian othics. Among tho rion-comniissioiied officers who recently attended the camp at tho show grounds, Palmerston North, tho following Wellington men passed tho first part of their examinations for commissions:—Colour-Sergeants L. H. Welch, A. B. W. Ross, M. Thompson, and R. L Cowie; Sergeants R. Gardiner, R. A. Ishcnvood, D. 11. Mitchell, D. J. M'Keen, F. M'Nally, J. A. M. Clachan, E. It. F. Amblor, A. K. Murray; corporals. R. J. Sweeney, G. L. Davidson, F. Joplin, and E. T. Lay- ' burn, The camp lasted one week.
