Wo note with interest that all the best prizes for cheese at the Palinerston 'Show and the best prices in the London market were obtained by those makers who use Victor Vats. These famous vats'embody a new principle of middle drainage —worth while investigating. A. J. Parton, Dairyman, Carterton.—Advt.

The "Daily Chronicle" states that ono of tlio recent acts of Mr. Runciman has secured at one- stroke two important results—depriving Germany of a large amount of "valuables food and adding it to Britain's stock. This is nothing loss than the purchaso of Norway's entire catch of fish for the year. The Germans thoroughly realised its importance, and last year acted early and secured the entire catch. This .year, however, the British Government' was too quick for them, and before they dreamed of what had happened the year's produce of the sea was bought. The approximate figures of last year's Norwegian catch, which went to Germany, are as follow: —55,000,000 cod, 58,000 tons of fresh herrings, 4,750,000 bushels (roughly) of salted herrings, 59,000 tons of salted and snlit cod, 8,520,000 mackerel (coast fisli), 9316 barrels of mackerel (North Sea fish), 52,000 tons of t ! nned _ fish. These figures do not include various other fish in smaller quantities. It may bo taken, at a moderate estimate, that what Britain will gain and Gormanylosoinfisli this year will amount to 500,000 tons.,
