FATAL COLLISION

AT RAILWAY CROSSING NEAR MARTON. By Telegraph—Press Association. Marton, August IS. A fatal collision occurred this afternoon at Pukepapa Road railway crossing, Marton, between a motor-car and a goods-train. Douglas M'Lean, a youth aged 18 years, was driving his mother and sister home, with the sidecurtains down and tho hood up. He approached the railway line without noticing tho train, and the engine struck the car, wrecking it completely, and throwing the occupants out. Mrs. Donald M'Lean, a well-respected resident oT the Rangitikei district, and a widow, was instantaneously killed. Tho driver sustained a broken jaw and severe shock, and is in a semi-con-scious state. Hiss M'Lean escaped injury.
