' The Forth and Clyde Canal burst at Clydebank. ..'..'_ Great volumes of water, poured into I the town, flooding the streets to a depth of three feet, the shops, .houses, and shipyards. . There were many exciting scenes. Horse-drawn lorries .were used as fer•ries'. The floods are now controlled. The damago is heavy, but there are no casualties. [The Forth and Clyde Navigation Canal rims from Bowling on the Clyde through the north-western part or Glasgow and through Kirkintilloch and Falkirk to Grangemouth-on the Forth, a distauce of. thirty-five miles. Clydebank is five miles north-west _ of Glasgow. The canal was authorised in 1767, and opened from sea to sea in 1780.J '" " . ' '
