PINPRICKING THE EMPLOYER
Sir. —One reads with amazement, what trivial cases the Labour Dcparment takes aaginst an employer, e.g., an employer never paid his employees within five minutes of closing time. Does the Labour Department know that there is a ureal war on in Europe, which is malsing employing anything but pleasant? Not only the scarcity of labour, but the quality is not so good, consequently the result is a reduced output. Wiiat would the Labour Department isay if the employers said "I can afj ford to close my factory till tho end of the war?" The Labour Department would naturally be in tho samo happy state. Do_ tho majority of omployers take action when an employee makes a breach ? Jso; be more often has not the lime to waste to go to the court. It is continual pinpricking that_ is bringing tho Labour Deparment into absolute ridicule amongst employers, and tho sooner they realise that they represent tho employers as well as the employees the bettor for them.—l am, tc, FOMJMAK August 18.
