The New Zeaknders' and Canadians also ■ gave the King a great ovation. BLESSINGS AND 'IRON CROSSES BEHIND THE GERMAN LINES. London! August 16. The King and the Kaiser visited the Somme front simultaneously. Hysterica! accounts are given of the Kaiser bestowing blessings and iron crosses on the parades, in contrast with the quiet confidence shown in the King's visit. WAR FROM THE PULPIT. Amsterdam, August 16. The Kaiser's cliief chaplain, Dr. Dryander, has returned frofn tho Western front Ho preached an indignant sermon in tho Berlin Cathedral, denouncing tho so-called "grumble" of wives. He declared that criticisms and disputings were imperilling Germany, and l especially denounced tho complaints of dear food and short rations, and the recriminations botween Prussia- and Bavaria. Tho Kaiser had clearly inspired the sermon;

The "Cologne Gazette" states that the Kaiser, on visiting Cologne, acknowledging the crowd's salutations to his train, came to the window, and said: "Go to church, everybody, and pray for victory and an honourable peace." .
