MAWSON EXPEDITION SPECI- ■ , MENS. Application was made some months ago to the trustees of the British Mn- ; seum by the New Zealand Government for a selection of tho duplicate specimens brought baok by the Mawson Antarctic Expedition of 1910-13, for addition to the collections now in the Dominion Museum, and also in tho museums at Auckland, Christ-church, and Dunedin. To this communication the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. G. W. Russell) has just received the following reply:— "l am directed to state for the information of the Prime Minister of New Zealand that the trustees have decided that these museums shall receive most favourable consideration when the distribution of the duplicates in question takes place, and that a first set of such specimens shall be placed at tho disposal of the New Zealand Government I am, however, to add that a good part of the collection is now m the hands of specialists for the purpose of description, and that owing to the war there is bound to be some delay in the progress of the work and the distribution of the duplicates."
