ITALY'S IMPORTS OF WOOL
STATEMENT IN THE BRITISH PARLIAMENT. Australian-New Zealand Cable Association, London, August 15. Replying to a Question in the House of Commons, 3lr. Lewis Harcourt stated that Italy's imports of greasy wool from' all sources in 1915 showed an increase of 43,869 metrio tons compared with 1913. Washed wool decreased by 1699 tons, and manufactured wool decreased by 19,677 tons. If the greasy wool imports were reckoned in terms of washed wool, tho not increaso of' imports would bo uuder 10,000 tons of washed. The increase was largely due to the requirements of tho Army. Italy's production ot woollen materials in 1915 wns considerably above normal, and the export of manufactured woollens to Franco increased. There was 110 reason to believe that the control over tho export to Switzerland had been ineffective.
