He said that the remaining German forces'were being kraaled. Only one end was possible; that was not far distant. General Smuts's progress had been phenomenal. (United Service.) (Rec. August 16, 11.35 p.m.) Durban, August 16. General Botha said that in addition to the arduousness of operations in almost impenetrable forests, sicknoss had been rampant amongst inon and beasts. The distances to be traversed _ were enormous. The German Askaris, admirably led, were fine fighters, and tlicir nincliine-gun detachments were worthy of respect. "Notwithstanding tliese obstacles, our progress has been plTenoraenal," said General Botha.
