RECRUITING OF A SMALL INVESTOR

Sir, —In. reference to an article published in August 14 issue of (The Dominion, under the title of "Recruiting the Small Investor,"' I wish to put before your notice the latter part of the article, viz., "Many of us arc debarred from firing leaden bullets, but_ we all have the chance ■ of firing a silver one. now.'i ' Now, as it happens, I am not able at present to fire either. ' The. firstmentioned bullets I was anxious to fire, but* was rejected by the Defence Department as unfit for active service on account of injury to my right hip when,, a lad in England, which leaves my said limb weak. I am only too anxious to help my country in time of need, especially more so being of the ' Jewish, faith; to help a country that Rives my co-religionists more freedom, political rights, and protection than any other country in the world. But the matter stands this way with me: I put in for a position on the council's tramways, but was rejected for the same cause by the doctor as by the Defence Department's "medico." I also tried the Public Service Commissioner for a position. I had a notice to call and see the gentleman in charge of, the mail, delivery department. I went down,'my heart full., of bright thoughts for the future—if I should be. able to work my way up the ladder of fame from ordinary "letter-carrier." But the same disappointment awaited mo here for the same reasons. Now, dear readers, what chance have I to ' help my country by, lending her the few pounds I have saved, if I cannot get a footing, but have'to live on mv savings. I am not of a lazy disposition. This gets on my nerves, my forced idleness. I am a man who has travelled practically all over the world, and know the ways of different peonle, but cannot get a footing again, for the simple reason that luck is.against me.. Now, give me the chance to earn a living, and I would only ho too happy to help my country in time of need, to my best ability, in a financial way, or ;lielp in the making, of munitions, if this country need at any time branch out into this industrv.—i am, etc.. ■ N. H. MILLER. • August 14. ■
