Jacka and six others, who. crouched in a dugout, saw ■ the hopelessness of the •situation.. Then they noticed ; some':Australian_ supports starting out. Jacka, unhesitatingly called out to his six comrades, who advanced upon the surprised Germanß with the bayonet, and shouting. The bluff succeeded. The Germans, numbering nearly two hundred, showed no resistance; some escaped, the others surrendered. The Australians marched ill triumph back with the prisoners. Theii comrades, seeing the success of tha ruse, welcomed them with reusing cheers.
