MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Mr. L. G. Reid, S.M., presided iii the Magistrate's Court yesterday. For insobriety, ! Agnes Milligan was fined 55., Henry Greenfield 10s., Ewen Jean Pierre 55., Harry Collins £1, and Geo. Daniel Connell ss. Harry Elliassen, who made hini6elf obnoxious in the Commercial Hotel on Saturday evening, was fined £2 for having used obscene language, and os. for refusing'to quit the note). Henry. Thomas pleaded not guilty to a charge of being an idle and disorderly person without lawful means of support, and was remanded till Friday. Joseph Michael Kennedy was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment for deserting from the steamer Dorset, and on a charge of having assaulted I'ereival N. N. Jamieson he was Temanded till Friday. Two charges were made against Geo. Henry Anderson: (1) That he was deemed to be a rogue and vagabond, having been found by night on : certain premises in Quin Street; (2) that he assaulted Henry Thomas. : The evidence against Anderson, was to the effect that he went to a boardingliouse in Dixon Street, and, for some reason, Thomas called in the police. . Anderson was persuaded to leave, but. returned and assaulted Thomas. Later the police found him in a yard adjoining the boardingliousc_ premises, and he could give no satisfactory reason for being there. He was fined £1 on tlio first chargc. and £2 on the second chargo.
