A GERMAN ON GERMAN WAR METHODS
ARMY OFFICERS INDICTED : KULTCR IN POLAND ■ Australian-New Zealand Cable Association.. New York; August 13. The New York "Times" states that Dr. Kohn, a member of the Socialist group headed by Hugo Haase in the German Reichstag, in making a charge of the abuse of private soldiers by German officers, said the Crown Prince was encouraging the use of alcohol in the army. Dr. Kohn declared: "The nourishment .of the soldiers-is as-bad as that of civilians. Sentences for military offences are extraordinarily severe. . The German administration of Poland ■ and Lithuania has destroyed much sympathy for Germany. A merchant waa fined 100 marks because lie kept his books in Jewish instead of German. This gives the impression that tho administration of Poland is collecting largo fines, not as a means of discipline, but as a source of revenue.!'■ The oharges indicato that disabled men are being kept in. the service for political reasons. Soldiers are treated different- ' ly according to their political beliefs. ' Dr. Kohn says bo recognises that Germany is honestly trying to treat her prisoners of war as she would wish German prisoners abroad to be treated. This must be faithfully carried out. The interning of English civilians is politically unwise. It is unendurable that wives and children interned are not allowed to see their husbands and fathers. It is l barbarous' to throw such children from the Each one is a monument to Gcrmany'e barbarous method of warfare. He believes the reports of persecution of Germans in England are exaggerated, and are partly invented by tho Press to rouse a spirit against England. It was not riglit, bo contended, that the Minister of War, high officials, and army officers should, receive largo salaries when millions suffer the panga of .'hunger. Even in war the army cannot lay aside its class character. If tho relapse of Europo to barbarism is to bo prevented, they must stop the war. A SOCIALIST PROTEST. TEE GAG ON WAR DISCUSSIONS. ("The Times.") . Amsterdam, August 13.
