KEEN INTEREST IN THE WAR

Simla, August 12. There is general interest in tho war, and strenuous efforts to assist in tho final victory grow keener throughout India.
Six Indian officers and soldiers havo earned the Victoria-Cross, and twentyseven Military Crosses have also been won.
The general trado conditions and crop outlook are satisfactory. Juto and tea' are booming, and cotton has much improved.
Tho relations with the Ameer of Afghanistan is of the friendliest character. Ho is scrupulously maintaining his promise of strict neutrality. The tribes usually restless on tho borderland are quioter tlian for many years.
