During the Franco-Prussian War one of the tells in a certain church belfry in an East Lancashire town, without any warning, suddenly foil to the floor undamaged. Exactly three months later, it is asserted, peace was declared in that struggle. The same hell fell without warning during the Boer War, and by a strange coincidence, just three months later, peace was declared 'to this longdrawn conflict.
