Sixteen suits arising out of tho sink-' ing of the Lusitania havo been filed by relatives against, the Cunard Lino, claiming a million dollars as damages. 1 The plaintiffs contend that the . Cunar<l Company took no notice of the threats that tho vessel/would be destroyed; also that, the commander, knowing tho presence of submarines, took no proper precautions. The danger couid have been minimised by travelling at full speed or 'travelling at night. When in the danger zone the Lusitania travelled at seventeen knots, whereas eho- was capable of steaming twenty-five. _ It is also alleged that the company failed to promptly and efficiently launch the lifeboats or organise the crew.
