MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL

RATES DECLARED. ,The monthly meeting of the Makara County Council was held yesterday morning. ' The report on tho Ngahauranga Road stated that the road on the north side of the quarry was in good condition, but that the south side was in a disgraceful condition, and required metalling badly. A traction ongino had cut up the road severely during the winter, and it was agreed that the engine would probably have to stop running next winter. A motion moved by Councillor Taylor was carried: "That only first-class metal be supplied for the gorgo road." Councillor Taylor said ho had seen enough of secondclass metal going 011 the roads, and that it was a waste of timo putting it on.

The Wellington Meat Export Company replied to a memorandum from tho council, stating that no refuse had been placed 011 tho property facing the Hutt Road at the Hutt for some time, and that tlicy had received 110 complaint from the Health Department. The letter was forwarded on to the Health Department. The question of diverting the stream at Johnsonville so as to do away with two bridges was considered, and it was decided that the members of the council should visit the scene and make, tho arrangements necessary, and thai, the solicitor to the council should prepare the necessary deeds.
