- CEYSTALATtf CUP CHAMPION- ' SHIP. v sprinkling of ladies were amongst tile largo audience present to witness tho two games of tne Crystalate Guy last night at Alcock's showrooms. In atho first game between Tucker and Haywardj- both representatives of the Federal .Club, the tormer just managed to win by seven points after a; hard -Struggle., Eight up to tho last 60 Hayward led, when Tucker, -with"'a nicely compiled break of 41, secured an advantage of 18 points. Tucker, with 291), points, to his credit, broke down and left his opponent with 288 on the board and a puzzling double-baulk. It looked as if the game would Be won on & miss. However, Hayward did not lose tho {Joint, and also secured safety. His nest break realised fivo, whereupon Tucker secured an easy leave and the verdict.
J. H. Owen (Wellington Club), last year's, champion, then- took the table witli E. Stone (Petoue Workingmen's Club). For quite a while both players kept together, but about midway Owen drew steadily away, winning'Tjy a comfortable'margin. Owen appears to be lacking tho' form lie possessed last year; still, so far as tlic tournament has gone, it would appear that ho must be reckoned'on in or about the finish. Stone, his opponent, undoubtedly had bad luok and bad runs of tho balls for quite long periods.
The best breaks were: Tucker, 27, 22, 41; Hayivard, 28, 21; Owen, 22, 21, 29, 30; Stone,.27. ' To-night K. King (Federal Club) plays H. Shanks (Dominion Club), and J: P. Koy CVVorkingmcn's Club) plays A. J. Congdon (Commercial Farmers' Club,-Masterton). >
