THE' MURDER OF FRYATT
EMPHATIC PROTEST BY GREAT BRITAIN VISCOUNT GREY'S REQUEST TO AMERICA Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. (Rec. August 10, 6.45 p.nu) London, August 9. Official.—Viscount'Grey, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, in acknowledging Mr. AV. H. Pagers (American Ambassador's) notes of August "29 arid 31, forwards for communication to Berlin an emphatic protest against the murder of Captain Fryatt, which, he says, is a direct violation of tho law of nations and tho usages of war. "The proceduro at tho trial casts grave obloquy on the authorities, and its unseemly haste is sufficient proof .that the authorities were conscious of an. unwarrantable action. The excuse offered for this precipitancy cannot but bo regarded as unparalleled injhe circumstances." ... Viscount Grey asks that Mr. Gerard (American Minister at Berlin) should obtain a copy of the finding of the courts martial, a statement of the manner in which that court was constituted, details of the defence, and also that ho should furnish the names of the persons composing the court-martial and of the witnesses.
