CALL FOR MASTER MARINERS
FOR MOTOR-BOAT PATROL WORK. A few weeks ago Captain Whitney, of Auckland, received instructions through the Government to act in New Zealand in connection with volunteers from the mercantile marine for. service with' motor-boat patrol work in England. Captain Whitney came to Wellington a fortnight ago, when ho had an interview with His Excellency the Governor, the Prime Minister, and others in connection with tho servicc mentioned, after which he returned to Auckland. Yesterday evening-Captain M'lndoe, of the Merchant Service Guild, received the following important telegram from Captain Whitnsy:— "Important letter posted you. How many master mariners, desirous of iin. mediate service, could you count upon for crew, at full pay, to Africa. Steamer leaving about Communicate with master mariners immediately Could take twenty-seven hands. —(Signed) Whitney." It is understood that some maste; mariners in New Zealand have already been sounded on the above matter, anil that thero will be a ready response to tho call. -
