CONCILIATION COUNCIL
MINERS' DISPUTE. By Telejraph—Press Association. Thames, Sugust 8. Mr. Harle Giles, Conciliation Commissioner, presided to-day at the inquiry into the miners' dispute. The assessors for the employers were: Messrs. Iviugswell, Sfcanforfc, and Daw, and for the miners, Messrs. Lucas, Morgan, and M'Lemian. Mr. Lucas explained the reasons for an agreement, principally the extra cost of living. They had allowed twelve months to elapse after tho last award expired before they asked for a now agreement. Tliey had asked for a war bonus, which was not granted. Mr. Governor, advocate for the employers, suggested that the meeting adjourn till the Ohinemuri dispute had been settled, and thi s was agreed to. Mr. Kingswell estimated that the employers were in sympathy with the men. but he feared it meant the. death knell to miners in this district if the cost of running was iucreased. Most friendly relations.exist between the employers and men.
