Opportunity was taken by the members of the Institute of Marine Engineers in their building on Saturday evening to say farewell to Mr. A. iE. Macindoe, who for the past six years has held the position of Inspector of Machinery, Surveyor of Ships, nnd Examiner of Ma<rine Engineers and Engino Drivers in Wellington. Mr. Macindoß is retiring to take up a new occupation in Fiji, and he was tlio guest of the evening at an enjoyable gathering. Mr. Ernest Kke;\ rite-president of the institute, presided, and among those presont were the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), Messrs. G. Allport (Secretary of Marine), Robert Duncan (Chief Inspector of Machinery), Captain Macindoe (secretary of the Merchants' Service' Guild), Arch. Walker, R. B. Grange, James Robertson, E. Paterson, W. Bennett, A. E. Hislop, 6enr., W. Cable, and — Atmore. The Mayor, on behalf of the Master Iron Workers of Wellington, presented Mr. Macindoe with a purse of sovereigns, while Mr., Eobert Duncan, on behalf of'members of the institute, presented the departing member with a travelling-rug. The toast of the guest was proposed by Mr. G. Allport. There were several musical and other items, contributed by Messrs. Kays, Atmore, Walker, Healy, Eule. W. Bennett, Blake; and Captain Macindoe. Mr. Macindoe was freely wished the best of luck by those present. In the examination room of the Marine Inspection, of Ma-, chlnerv Department on Saturday morning, Sir. E. Duncan (Chief Inspector for New Zealand), on behalf of tho inspector* in the Dominion, presented Mr. Macindoe with" a purse of sovereigns and a silver liot-water kettle for Mrs. Macindoe. , Mr. Duncan spoke of the happy relations that had always existed be-' tween Si'. Macindoe and himsdf, and he wished him suooess in his new venture. Capfffi: Stringer, on behalf of the deck surveyors, and Mr. Calvort, on behalf of the looal engineers' surveyors, also voiced Teelingß of good fellowship.. Mr. Jftcindoe suitably responded on behalf of Mrs. Macindoe and himself. The family leaves tor Auckland by to-day's eipreis.
