LEAD POISONING
XO IMMEDIATE LEGISLATION. An inquiry as to what the Government had done to investigate the practice of dealing with lead poisoning, prevailing in European countries, was addressed to tlio Minister of I'iiWic. Health yesterday afternoon by Mr. Veitch. .In reply,;the Hon. G. \V. Russell said that the Public Health Department reported that no report had licen received to indicate what action the Imperial Government had taken in connection with this matter. It was suggested that the agitation against lead poisoning had been largely engineered by the zinc trade, which was largely in German hands. This aspcc-t did not concern tho Department, but it offered an additional reason why local legislation should wait upon full advice from the Imperial authorities. A report received from the Labour Department stated that a large number of cases of alleged lead poisoning had been investigated, but in many cases the claims of lead poisoning could. not be by doctors' evidence. The inquiries indicated, said the Minister, that it was desirable to; await furthor particulars from England.
