ONSLOW BOROUGH
Sir^—ln your issue of this morning a column is devoted to a report of a, discussion by the Onslow Borough Council of a motion by Councillor Appleton to consider tho question of amalgamation of the borough with Wellington City. 111 that report my l'riend Mr. Appleton i 3 represented as having said "that he had talked the matter over with numerous ratepayers in the borough, and each ono was distinctly in favour of the scheme.'' Now, if you' have correctly reported him in this, my friend must have lorgotten that, .when lie talked with me about it, I wholeheartedly opposed the idea, giving reasons for the faith that was in me. Aud I would add that I can produce many other ratepayers of the borough who are as much against this unnecessary and mischievous scheme as I am myself. Bad enough in itself, it is doubly deplorable coming from such a source, for in my friend Mr. Appleton we have ever trusted. "Oh, what a fall was there, my ■countrymen!"—l .am, etc., H. L. JAMES. Khandallah.Sir,—lt is to be hoped that our City Council will well consider the proposal to include Onslow in the Greater Wellington scheme. Of course, it is perfectly natural for the Onslow people to wish to participate in the Wellington rates. Another reason for the exclusion of Onslow is that; the-City Council and the ' City Engineer have abundance of work within the present city boundaries. —I am, etc., C.W.S.
