GERMAN FIRMS
.Sir,—lt is well known in business oirolea that there are German firms, some of whom liavo been prohibited from tradins here; who hare transferred their businesses nominally into the names of their Eug/isli clerks, and ore continuing to trade as usual. This evasion of tho war. regulations can bo easily overcome if Parliament would pass a Bhort Act similar to those in force in the other colonies, called the Registration of Private Firms Act. Under this Act private firms have to register'the names of their proprietors in the same way that public companies do, and until partner's name 'is erased from such registry he is liable for the firm's debts. That gives great protection to business people, ar.d is a most valuable precaution in peace as well as war. We are dreadfully behind the other colonies in commercial legislation, and I have been trying for years to get such an Act passed here, but as it is
not a, matter that bringß any votes to our. legislators none of them appear to take it up.—l am, etc., HENRY WRIGHT.
