TWO YEARS OF A COLOSSAL
PRIME MINISTER'S MESSAGE TO BRITAIN
Amongst the messages which will lie read at.the great patriotic war anniversary meeting at tho Guildhall in London this evening will be the following from tho Prime Minister of New Zealand (th'e. Right Hon. W. P. Massey):— "Prime Minister's Office, ""Wellington, August 3, 191(3. '"i'ho second anniversary of the declaration of war reveals to the world tho British Empire welded together more firmly than ever by the tremendous effort which she and , her giiiiant Allies aro putting forth for ' liberty and freedom. Wo shall unswervingly pursue this great struggle to a Victorious end, confident in tho justice and righteousness of tho cause for which wo have taken up arms.
"The foul atrocities perpetrated by tho Germans against humanity and the law of nations, as disclosed by the report of the Belgian Commission, and especially by recent events, brand for all time the 'German nation with shamo and dishonour. Those responsible for such crimes cannot us allowed to go unpunished. "The sky is now becoming clearer, and final victory is assured; but great sacrifices have yet to be made. New Zenlaiul affirms with redoubled determination her steadfast resolvo that the lives of her sons laid down in defence of our national lieritago shall not have been sacrificed in vain. We are at one with the whole Empire in our inflexible purpose to crush for ever the menace of despotic militarism which is threatening the very basis and ideals of civilisation. "(Signed) W. P. MASSEY." THE ANNIVERSARY IN' . 'WELLINGTON. To-day throughout the Empire patriotic demonstrations will be held. At theso gatherings a patriotic resolution will be 'submitted. In Wellington the Town \Hall at 8 p.m. will be the place of ussembly, where speeches of a patriotic character will be given by the Prime Minister (Right Hon. W. P. Massey), the, Eight Hon. Sir Joseph Ward, the Chief Justice (Sir, liobort Stout), and other prominent citizens. The Mayor of Wellington (Mr. J. P. Luke) is to preside. During the evening selections will be played by the Trentham Camp Band. An intercessory service, arranged by tho Wellington ■ Ministers' Association, will be held in St. John's Church at '5.5 p.m. . A memorial meeting is to be held at the Victoria University College at 5.10 p.m., in memory of those students and ex-students of the college ; who have fallen a£ the front. The chairman of the Professorial Board (Professor Garrow) will give; a short address, and the Bishop of Wellington will conduct a short intercessional service. In the evening; at 8 o'clock, patriotic •meetings will bo held in the Public Hall, Khandallah, and the Borough Chambers of Ivarori, Huvt, and I'etone, and other places. '
