ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS' SOCIETY

—: « . ANNUAL COMPETITION. Tho annual public speaking competition, under the auspices of the Accountant. Students' Society, was held lost evening for a. trophy presented by the president, Mr. E. AV. Hunt. Mr. J. S. Barton acted as judge, and the competition drew four entrants. Each competitor had to write an essay on some branch of accountants' work, read it, and then answer' questions on the paper for five minutes. Subsequently each candidate was given a question which he was given five minutes to study. Then ho bad to make an impromptu speech upon it. The four candidates, and the subject of their essaj-s, .were as follow:—G. C. Cooke, "Auditing of Cash Transactions"; V. L. Weaterman, "The Foreign Exchange"; C. R. Mazengarb, "Precautions, for Trustees Investing on Mortgage of_ Freehold"; and D. Patterson, 'u)issoiution of Partnership." The papers were of a. very interesting nature and were handled by 'their authors in a business-like manner. : At the close of the competition the judge announced A r . L. AVeslerman tho winner.
