RESULT OF THE RUA TRIAL
JURY DISAGREE ON PRINCirAI CHARGES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, August 2. Mr. Justice Chapman concluded .his summing up in tho Rua case at noon, the caso having occupied 47 days. He said the outstanding fact of tho march upon Maungapohatu was that it was considered by tho Government a. very serious affair. Tho jury had to consider tho effects of seditions -utterances uttered when tho Empire was in extreme peril, and when every man was called upon for loyAlty to the lung, and whether the utterances alleged against the accused were calculated to create discontent. The jury gavo their verdict after doliberating for 61 hours. They found accused guilty of resisting tho police at Wai-iti; not guilty of using seditious language; and on the Maungapohatu charges of counselling to murder and counselling to do grievous bodily harm 'they disagreed. The Judge intimated that he would defer his decision as to what course ho mould take until this morning.
