STATE BANQUET TO OVERSEA DELEGATES
SPEECH BY/ SIR JAMES CARROLL. Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. (Rec. August 1, 9.25 p.m.) tondin, August 1. Mr. Asquith presided at a banquet which was given by the Government to the overseas Parliamentary delegates at Lancaster House. Thero was a big attendance of statesmen and others, those presont including tho Archbishop of Canterbury (Dr. Davidson), Lord Islington, and the High Commissioners. Mr. Asquith; referring to the visits of the delegates to the British front and to the Fleet, said that their visit to England was opportune. After a long stagnation, tho operations had taken a decisive turn. "It. is'a great moment for us," he said. "You havo seen the actual realities of war. Few of your fellowcitizens will have tho same privileges, and therefore you will tako the Mothor Country's message to her children. ' Britain and her Dominions havo been called uqoh to tako a stand in this supreme struggle for freedom and justice. The blood wo havo been shedding sido by side has moant now life and the promiso of an immortal future to our Imperial household." Sir James Carroll (Now Zealand), replying, said that no Ministry had been confronted with more tremendous' issues. "The Dominions' hope is that you will remember their views upon affairs of Empire, and act rightly in finding a tangible solution."
