Christchurch, July 31. : At the Supreme Court to-day, Henry Bclin, aged 71, was sentonced to two years' i'mprisoument for theft, and was declared an habitual criminal. ' Charles McCarthy was found guilty of indecent assault, sentence being deferred. James Choat, who appeared in khaki, was found guilty of indecently assaulting a child 7J years of age. Sentence was deferred. James Dwyer was acquitted on a /charge of indecent assault. In the case of Michael Carey, His Honour considered the evidence was not sufficient to justify the charge of murder, and the charge was reduced to one of manslaughter. Carey, who belonged to the Sixteenth Reinforcements, is -.'barged with causing the death of a civilian named Allen by striking him on the face after an argument in Cnshei (Street.
