PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL

: « —— The Petone Borough Council held its fortnightly meeting last evening, when there were present:—The Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan), and Councillors Cox, Forsyth, M'Dougall, M'Kenzie, Anderson, Jones, and Trueman. Mr. James P. Gaynor took the declaration as a councillor, and was duly installed. The I'rimo Minister acknowledged receipt of the council's resolution regarding vacant positions, and statod that careful consideration would he givon to tho terms of the resolution. Tho Hawko's Bay Anti-German Tjeagne forwarded a.letter in respect to tho Naturalised Subjects' franchise", and tho communication was received. It was resolved, after discussing a fur(her communication from the General Manager of the Now Zealand Railways, in respect ta tho 7.25 a.m. train, to defer consideration until next mooting, with a view to discussing tho truo facts of tho case. Councillor Cos moved:—"That the Government be urged to amend tho Valuation of Land Act, 1903, making it necessary for applicants, when applying for a reduction or an increase of unimproved •value, to first notify the local governing authority. Alfeo, to grant local bodies power to object to such reduotion or inoreaso of such valuation." Councillor Jones seconded the motion, rchich. was cankd.
