HOLLWEG'S MOVING PICTURE
Australian-New Zealand Gable Association. (Rec. July 2D, 7.25 p.m.) Zurich, July 28. Herr von Bethmaun-Hollwcg, at this recent conference oi party leaders, in his spßech hinted that it might Lo increasingly difficult 'to maintain tho present lino from the Baltic to tho Pripet marshes, especially if Britain, threw in the whole weight of her new armies. ]f the Germans could hold the present lines the-Chancellor'pictured Britain wearying of the struggle; and 'the Entente becoming a mere name, perhaps before the cud of the year, liussia, without tho Western help, could not carry on. Italy could be bought off : ,vith the cession, of Trentiuo, and peace might then be arranged, giving up Belgium, Northern Prance, and a portion of the Alsaiian Vosges 'in return, Belgian aud French C'onj;o. Britain and the Boers could be mollified by giving up South-West Africa, German}' relinquishing New Guinea, and the adjoining islands to gratify Australia, in return for British East Africa, and 'possibly Angola. Germany would then settle with Russia, and demand increased territory in Courland and the Vistula, relinquishing the rest of Russian Poland in return for a commercial treaty. On the other hand, if Germany is forced to retire from tho present lines she would then declare the independence of 'Poland and secure Polish, military support.
