!.. / EXPECTED THIS WEEK. A definite promise to hasten the- end of tho session was sought from the Inme Minister on Saturday afternoon by Mr. J T M. Hornsby. who pointed out that on August i, Doolaration Day, resolutions would be passed in each centre, and' he thought members should be back in their conetitutcncics for the occasion. In reply, the Prime Minister said: I a°ree thoroughly with the. suggestion made.vand I think it is most important. ! that we should have a definite and onthusiastio pronouncement from every settlement in Now Zealand with regard to carrying on the war to a successful conclusion, and that these resolutions should be carried on Declaration Day. As tar as I am personally concerned I would bo only too pleased if we get through, the business before then, and I think it is quite probable that we\pan finish. But we cannot finish it there is to be anyobstruction-I have nothing particular in mind, but this is an occasion when wo do not want any unnecessary _ delay. If possible the Goverment will bring the session to a close in time for Declaration Day." ■•'., ,• • , ' M-r.-Wittv and Mr. Dickson (in unison): Well, that" means Wednesday night to let us get back. . Mr. Massey: Friday is the day. Members: But wo have to travel. Mr. Massey: Well, Wednesday night, if possible. , Later tho subject recurred when the Question of sitting on Saturday evening was mentioned. Mr. Massey .repeated that he wished to finish, if possible, on Wednesday, ' Members: You can't do it. ' Mr. Massey: I would like to comply with the request, but members know verv well that Cabinet has a great deal of work on hand. It will be necessary-' for Cabinet to have a very lensJiy sitting on Monday, and T do not think the Hoiteo can meet till the evening, and 1 therefore suggest sitting this evening. This course was. agreed to and the Houso adjourned for three-quarters of an hour to see the march past of die troops.
