KHANDALLAH DEBATING SOCIETY
The weekly meeting of tho above eociety was held.on Tuesday evening, when a debate was taken: "That it is in the fcestS?interests of ' the Empire to maintain a standing army of at least a million men." Messrs. W. Appleton, J. M. Dale, and B. Hobbs took tno affirmative, while the negative was taken by Messrs. A. E. Budd, J. H. Jleadowcroft, G. Burt, and C. Jones. The debate was of a fairly lively character, and on tho resolution being put to tho meeting tho affirmative was carried,by a substantial majority. .The subject'for next meeting will bo "Impromptu Speeches."
