OFFICERS' TRAINING CORPS

FOE MEDICAL'STUDENTS. Eegula'lions which have been issued for tho establishment and control of the new Officers' Training Corps for medical students at Dunedin provide that tho training of tho corps shall bo under tho. supervision of tho Director of Military Training, Defence Headquarters, Wellington. Its military establishment is that of a. Field Ambulance, and the course of training is spread over four separate years. Each member of tho corps, which is a purely voluntary organisation, must be returned as eflicicnt i'n the ono year of his training before being admitted to the next. Taking as regards preliminary drill will bo conducted by a sergeant-instructor, and tho medical officers of tho corps will also act as instructors. Six weeks before tho half-yearly examination lectures will be delivered by a .medica lstaff officor on medical organisation and sanitation, and by an officer deputed by the District Staff on drill and general training, each officer delivering twelve lectures. Tho corps will also bo inspected by the Direc-tor-General of Medical Services,' or by some officer deputed by him, at its annual training eamy, and at other times. Two certificates, designated "A" and "\i," .will be obtainable by members, the examination for the first certificate Tiein;: held after two years' efficient service, and that for the second after an interval of not less than six months from taking the "A" certificate. Candidates who have obtained both certificates will be eligible for nomination as, lieutenants on probation in the N.Z. Medical Corps or N.Z. Dental Corps. Officers, non-commissioned officers, and men of the Q.T.C., whether previously exempt from military service or not, will be subject to all the regulations in regard to pay, discipline, etc., that apply'to members of the Territorial Forces, and are liable to similar penalties for' offences such as being absent from parade or other misdemeanours. The conditions of efficiency for each year will be that the member shall attend the prescribed number of parades and camps with his unit.'

Members of the Officers.' Training Corps through carrying out the O.T.C. course will not require to'enrol in tho Territorials or Senior Cadets, as they are called upon to do at present. The value of the "A." certificate, will be equivalent to passing the first appointment examination for second lieutenant, and that of "B" certificate to passing the promotion examination of a Territorial, lieutenant for captain.
