The management of the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Co., Ltd., has recently ma'de the foUcfwing statement:—"Senator Marconi has been engaged in research work in Italy, where he lias been able to carry out some important experiments osd tests. He advises that the results obtained aro farreaching, and directly concern the future practice of the entire science of wireless telegraphy and telephony, over both long or short, distances, no matter whether conducted by means of ordinary spark, quenched sparks, or continuous waves. Ho is uc.v engaged in making applications for the patents, which wilt probably be applied at once in Italy to military purposes. By these means results hereto thought impossible will be obtained." AMERICAN NOTIONS. The experiment of building standardised ships by turning out n, large number of vosscls oT tho same size, build, and type, and disposing of thorn as fast as completed, -is-about to bo tried by a new

Pennsylvania- shipbuilding company. It is thought that this method will effect a. 'argo savins in the co6t of construction, as one set of plana can bo used, and nlatcs. and shapes can be manufactured in large quantities, and stored until needed. American shipbuilders have been partial to the plan for some time, and the result of the experiment will doubtless be watched with interest. ■ . • ■ i MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. . Captain E. S.
