. OMEGA AT PORT CHALMERS. The four-masted Auicrican schooner Omega, which reached Port Chalmers on Thursday from (Pacific Coast), occupied 83 days on the passage. Tho early stages of tho journey were favoured by fine weather, but wheu the vessel was some 36 days out severe ivinds were encountered, and tho hull was badly strained, causing a leak on the port bow. Tho ship made a- good, deal of waterroughly, about six inches an hour-ami tho motor pumps had to be kent going all tho time, though, owing to the nature of the cargo, there wqb no immediate danger of her sinking. A course was set for Pago Pago harbour, and tho Omega was laid up there for three weeks while repairs were cß'ectcd. A good run of 26 days, accompanied by fine weather, was mado from Pago Pago to Dunedin. Tho cargo brought by the Omega consists ot 650,000 ft. 'of Oregon.

THE FLORENCE LUCKENBAOH. A good deal of interest was taken in the arrival at the wharf yesterday morning of the American steamer Florence Luckenbach from New York. There is nn mistaking the name or -nationality ot the ship,' because, after the manner of American ships in this time of uncertainty at sea, there is emblazoned on all Bins of the vessel In large letters, "Florence Luckenbach, New York," besides which the Stars and Stripes are painted on tho vessel's sides most conspicuously Un tho decks of the shin there are stack ed, in places two deep, cases of American motor-enrs. while the holds also arc full of similar freight. The deck cargo shows considerable evidence of having eome through rough weather. As .stated in yesterday's Dominion the Florence.Luckcnboch was until about ithrco years ago the English steamer .'Damara. Just before leaving New York the ship was adapted to using oil fuel. The vessel left Now York on the present trip on the morning of June 12, and arrived at Panama Canal after a • fine weather trip. A slide of earth in the Canal delayed the -vessel for about two days. Balboa was left behind on Saturday, June 24, and until July 6, the weather \ras exceptionally fine. Then, however, heavy north-west and south-east ealc9_ were encountered, and this state of ,'i flairs' continued practically without fa- brt'ak until arrival at Welllnprton. The ship was floating very high in the v-'ater, and It was found necessary at times to slow up considerably. No damage was done, however. Captain J. J. Fitzgerald has associated with liim the following officers:—Chief, 'Jlr. A. Mac Donald; second, Mr. G. W. Curtice, -third: Mr. W. Leary, engineer Mr. A. Henderson; second, .-ir. W. Michaelis: third, Mr. A. Effan;. fourth, Mr. E. S. Jones. Mr. B. C. Springer Is the wireless operator. The third officer (Mr. Leary) has been in New Zealand pevlously,- when sailing in the .Clan M'Leod, which traded to Auckland and Dunedin some eight or nine years ago. After discharging 320 of her. freight-of 900 motor-cars and a quantity of general cargo tho American ship will proceed' to Adelaide, and other Australian ports.
