SPINAL MENINGITIS
/I'WO DEATHS IN CAMP. . A case of cerebro-spinal meningitis, which has resulted fatally, has occurred ut Trentham Camp. Private Rn ex-jockey, and'a member of D Coy., Eighteenth Reinforcements, died from, tho disease in Trentham Hospital 'on Sunday evening. He had been suffering from influenza, and apparently was progressing favourably till about .noon on Sunday.'- Ho was then removed to tho isolation hospital, where he was found to be suffering from the disease. Everything possible was done for him, but he sank rapidly, and died about seven hours later. On inquiry being mado last evening, Surgeon-General. Henderson. Director of Medical Services, stated that every precaution has been taken in regard to the outbreak. Huts have been • subjected to a thorough cleaning, and all 'of them have been fumigated. The twenty-eight men who were in the hut With Harding have.' been completely Iso-lated,-and are receiving, rigid" attention. General Henderson' said tliat swabs havo' been taken from all the contacts, and .■>.ll have been thoroughly disinfected. Up till: a late hour last night no other sign oTTthe disease "had made its appearance at Trentham. Camp. A death under similnr circumstances occurred sit Fcatherston Camp last evening.. The man's name is Private Wilson, 'and it is believed that be wan a member of D'Coy.; Seventeenth Reinforcements.' Further' particulars were n?t available last evening. The outbreak at both, camps is attributed to the wet weather and the men contracting influent.
