The Press Bureau states that in view of the possibility of the failure of Sir Ernest Shaokletou's third atteo-.pt in a small vessel to IV?\7CU)? tbo twenty-two men on Elephant Island, and at his most urgent request, the Government has' decided to dispatoh a vessel from England at tho earliest possible moment. Seeing that no suitable wooden vessel was available' in any South American port, the Hudson Bay Company has most-gener-ously placed at the Admiralty's disposal the Discovery, specially built for Antarctic exploration.- As long as she is required this service, will be free of all cost. Lieut.-Commander James Fairweather, of the Naval Volunteer Eeserve, who is an experienced ice master, has been appointed to command,the Discovery, which is now fitting out in the Naval 'Dockyard at Devonport. When the work ia completed, unless there is news of Sir. Ernest Slrackleton's success, she will proceed to Elephant Island, embarking Sir Ernost Shackleton en route. It is expected that the Discovery will have no •difficulty in reaching her destination, <md it is sincerely that she will be successful in rescuing the stranded party.
