MAGISTRATE'S COURT
POLICE CASES. Mr. TV. G. Eiddell, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court on Saturday. James Donovan, charged with having committed a grossly indecent act in Buckle Street on Friday evening, was fined X 3, in default 14 days'- imprisonment. William Bolton and -'.Alfred George Lindsay, two' waterside workers, whom. Inspector Hendrey described as being hard-working men, ptaulod guilty to playing "two up" on the Queen's Wharf. His Worship inflicted a fine of 405., or seven days' imprisonment, in each case. "He is a very disorderly man when drimk, aud has five previous convictions against him for similar offences this year," was. the statement of Inspector Hendrey, when Arthur Short appeared to answer a charge of disorderly behaviour while drunk, also with damaging a police sorgeant's wristlet watch. ■ Accused was convicted and fined 405., default being fixed at -14 days. Short was also ordered to make gobd the damage he had caused.' An elderly inan, David Douglas, appeared on two charges of assault, to which he pleaded not guilty. The ac-cused-said that .he had left some property with complainants, who, he alleged refused.to return it to.him.' After hearing the evidence the Magistrate entered a conviction, and imposed a fine of JOs., in default 14 days' imprisonment, on each charge. An order was made- that Douglas should pay the. expenses of two witnesses. Bs.
