Anderson, and Co. {Messrs .Mellsop, Elioit, and Co., Palmerston North, local agents), report on th© frozen meat market under date London, May 27, as follows Meat Market.—Home-grown has been in moderate supply, and demand variable, according to weather conditions. Live 6tock prices can .be described as easier throughout the country. Ireland shipped this week 40,000 head of cattle and sheep, against 21,CC0 in the corresponding week last year, the chief inc.case being in 7316 lambs. Frozen.—Supplies have been totally inadequate, and the retailer ha 3 to be content with about 30 per cent, of his requirements. Government-controlled lambs have not been raised further, but -as much as 12£ d. is being, mado of Plate lambs, and correspondingly high prices for sheep from those who are forced.to buy them through the general shortage. There was a poor selection of merinos, the prices of which were unchanged. The following were the prices realised for the fleece portion of the'Kow Zealand clips named:—Clayton, top price, 22id.; average, 21M.; Longburu, ton 25Jd„ average 22f;d. Chicago, July options, 114Ae.; September, 115Jc.; December, 1181 c: The wheat 'and flour Afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,090,000 quarters, for the Continent 4,580,000 quarters. Atlantic shipments, 758,000 quarters; Pacific, 1 nil. Total for Europe, 1,445,000 quarters. Russia, 20,000 quarters; India,' 32,000; Argentine, 147,000; and Australasia, 136,C00 quarters. Broomhall estimates the exportable surpluses of wheat of the United States, Canada, Australia, Argentine, India, -and North Africa- for the year ending July, 1917, at 81,000,000 quarters, anK the probable requirements, not indudfttg those of Germany, Austria-Hungary, Turkey, and Serbia at 74,000,000 quarters, but should the war terminate early the four coun« tries named -would require probably 58.00d.000 quarters, ahd Holland and Pelplum 2.C00.0C0 quarters.
