At the last meeting of the Petone District High School Committee it was resolved ' that after the new members of tho Education Board are elected, tho local representatives bo invited to visit and inspect the playground at Petono Main School. A framed portrait of the late Earl' Kitchener was presented by Mrs. C. Barlow, and the committee decided to forward a letter of appreciation to the donor. The headmaster's report stated that the number on tho Toll at the beginning of tho month was 744 primary, 53 secondary; admitted, 29 primary; withdrawn, 25 primary, 4 secondary. On the roll, .Tuly 14, 748 primary; 59 secondary; average attendance, 873 primary; 58 secondary; percentage attendance, 91 primary; 93 secondary. Tho report added that the bazaar held in the school in aid of sailors' dependants resulted in the sum of JJ7O 7s. 6d. being handed over to the Mayor of Wellington. An effort was also being made in the school to raise funds for the starving Belgian children. Many of tho children were activo supporters of Dr. Barnardo's homes, and money boxes devoted to this cause, which wero recently opened, contained over £9. Mr. Wilford also spoke of a few of the traditions of the Valley which the boys had to keep up, and, coupled with Mrs. Wilford, was accorded a hearty voto of thanks when leaving. A presentation was made, to Mr. Walton, who has helped the bovs, in many ways and assisted them in the practices. Medal winners were: Messrs. Bnrns, James, R. M'Kay (2), Lusky, ■Stevens, Slater, Burt, Bowers, P. M'Kay. During tho evening the following toasts were honoured'"The King," "Kindred Clubs," and "Our Visitors."
